Atlas Brew Works is a neighborhood production brewery located in Northeast Washington, D.C.
We produce hand crafted artisanal beer in 20 barrel batches at our facility in Ivy City in Northeast DC. We welcome visitors to stop in for a tasting, tour, growler to go, or just to say hi.
Atlas Brew Works was born of passion for craft beer and community.
CEO Justin Cox grew up in Tennessee and went to school at Vanderbilt. Afterwards Cox came to DC for government work. When Cox finally committed to starting his own brewery he decided that DC’s burgeoning craft scene would be perfect for their varied and oftentimes sophisticated offerings. In just a few years, Atlas has expanded in big ways, both in terms of output and styles brewed.
Solar Powered Beer
As of August 2015, Atlas is a 100% solar-powered brewery through our partnership with Solar Solution. Learn more about the partnership here, and see our full solar production here.

Justin Cox Founder & CEO
Meet Justin
Justin CoxFounder & CEO
Now a DC resident for more than a decade, Justin was born and raised in the Smokey Mountains of East Tennessee. Justin pursued his undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University in Engineering Science and Economics. Shortly after, he moved to Washington, DC to work in business consulting. He returned to law school at George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, VA. After graduating in 2009, Justin took a Presidential Management Fellowship with the General Services Administration.
Meanwhile, he honed his homebrewing skills, becoming a very popular neighbor by having lots of great beer always on hand. Justin decided to throw caution to the wind and explore his entrepreneurial side by opening Atlas Brew Works in his new hometown, the District of Columbia. Calling on long time friend Will Durgin to join as Head Brewer, the two opened the business in September of 2013.
When not putting out fires or marketing and selling beer, Justin enjoys any activity on the water, watching crappy reality TV, and spending time with his wife and English Bulldog.
Daniel V Head Brewer
Meet Daniel
Daniel VHead Brewer
As Head Brewer at Atlas, Daniel oversees production of Atlas’ varied portfolio of ales and lagers. Daniel has a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Maryland and he is a graduate of the Siebel Institute's Concise Course in Brewing Technology. Daniel came to Atlas mere months after we opened from Franklin's Restaurant and Brewery in Hyattsville, MD. Before entering the craft beer industry, Daniel held a position with Chesapeake Spice Co, as a Quality Control technician. Raised in Prince George’s County, he works hard, has incredible tastes in suits, and loves pepperoni pizza.
When asked about his resemblance to Jon Snow, he was overheard pontificating:
"Water, hops, malt, and yeast gather, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my brew house. I am the yeast in the darkness. I am the watcher on the fermenters. I am the fire that burns against glycol, the forklift that brings the grain, the mash tun that wakes the sleepers, the kettle that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor
to the Brewer's Watch, for this brew day and all the brew days to come."
Corey Poole Director of Operations
Meet Corey
Corey Poole Director of Operations
Corey is a graduate from the University of Maryland with degrees in Plant Biology and Landscape Architecture. Starting out in the trenches in golf course construction, at a young age he made his way to the senior construction project manager's role. He later started a landscape construction company with his father and served as the CEO for 6 years. As his own family began to grow, he set aside his role in this endeavor and became a stay-at-home dad.
While in his new position managing the household, play dates, and home brew recipes, he came across Justin when Atlas was a few months from opening. He began working at Atlas, and as his children were getting ready to begin school, he became Atlas' Director of Operations.
When he isn't managing Atlas's day to day activities and company development, he spends time with his incredible wife and three boys. He is obsessed with Star wars and unapologetically loves renaissance fairs.
